Jayhawks Find Success at Little Rock Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomore Summer Collins and freshman Janet Koch carried the torch for the Jayhawks on the first day of the 2015 Little Rock Invitational Friday. Collins and Koch picked up wins in both singles and doubles.

Collins defeated Marta Milutinovic of Ole Miss, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (1) and Koch posted a 7-6, 6-4 win over Janina Berres of Memphis. The two Jayhawks will continue on in singles action in Little Rock on Saturday.

“It was great to see all of Summer’s hard work payoff as she played great tennis in the most critical moments of her match,” said Kansas assistant coach Caroline Lilley.

Collins paried up with senior Maria Jose Cardona in doubles play. The duo defeated Milutonovic and Robbins of Ole Miss, 6-3, in their first match of the tournament.

Koch teamed up with fellow freshman, Anastasiya Rychagova, to defeat Breaux and Araujo of Arkansas, 6-2.

“The girls competed incredibly well today,” said Lilley. “We constantly talk about controlling our controllables and being the best competitors we can be. Today we took another step in the development process as we established and sustained consistent pressure at times, and we are excited to continue to improve as the tournament goes on.”
