Jayhawks Helping Others Art to be Displayed in Booth Hall

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Kansas Athletics solicited works of art from local youth with the theme of Jayhawks Helping Others. To participate, young Jayhawks were asked to do something kind for someone and create a piece of art to depict what they did, or a lesson learned by doing it. That art is now on display inside the Booth Hall of Athletics through the end of January.

Some of the acts of kindness undertaken and depicted by the artists include:

• Alec, age 8, who, “Went to Hillcrest Nursing Home and helped Norman play BINGO. He won twice… Norman and I had a lot of fun!”
• Emerson, age 12, volunteered through his church to, “Provide a luncheon for blind and visually impaired people. Volunteers (including myself), help escort them, prepare and serve lunch. From my experiences, I learned that blindness doesn’t prevent you from viewing life in beautiful colors.”
• Silas, age 5, helped wrap and deliver presents for their adopted family over the holiday. “It made me feel so nice to do this. It made me feel lucky to have all the stuff I have. I am happy we adopted a family!”
