THE BASELINEKansas women’s tennis will face the 36th-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks and the 45th-ranked Purdue Boilermakers in its first road matches of the 2016 spring campaign this weekend. The Jayhawks enter Friday’s match against Arkansas with a 2-0 record after defeating Nebraska-Omaha and Drake in Lawrence earlier this month. KU defeated both UNO and Drake by the score of 7-0. The Jayhawks and Razorbacks will face off at the Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas at 1 p.m., Friday afternoon. KU will then take on 45th-ranked Purdue at 2 p.m., Saturday.
THE SERIES: KANSAS vs. ARKANSASArkansas leads the all-time series with Kansas, 11-7, including having won four-straight matches over the Jayhawks. The last match-up between the two schools took place in 2008, with Arkansas posting a 5-2 victory over KU.
SCOUTING THE RAZORBACKSDominant from start to finish, Arkansas women’s tennis picked up a 4-1 victory over UC Irvine in the consolation match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on Saturday, Jan. 23.With the win, Arkansas improved to 2-1 in dual matches. The Razorbacks were without their No. 1 player Yuliya Lysa for the third-straight dual match. Lysa is currently sidelined with an injury.
THE SERIES: KANSAS vs. PURDUEKansas (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) leads the all-time series with Purdue 1-0. The Jayhawks defeated the Boilermakers, 4-0, in Lawrence on Feb. 7, 1988 in the two teams lone matchup.
SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERSThe 45th-ranked Purdue women’s tennis team opened its 2016 spring season by winning five of its first six matches. The Boilermakers put together four-straight wins, before falling to No. 40 Texas on Jan. 23. Purdue defeated Penn, 4-0, in its last outing.
UP NEXTKU will return to the friendly confines of the Jayhawk Tennis Center for seven-straight home matches, beginning with North Texas on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. Following KU’s match against North Texas, the Jayhawks will play host to Colorado (Feb. 7), Wichita State (Feb. 28), New Mexico (Feb. 29), SMU (March 4), Denver (March 6) and Baylor (March 8).
