Snapchat @ku_footballLAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas football team returns to the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium Saturday, Oct. 22, as the Jayhawks play host to Oklahoma State in their annual Homecoming game at 11 a.m. on Fox Sports 1.
OSU (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) and KU (1-5, 0-3 Big 12) have played 66 times with the Cowboys leading the all-time series 34-29-3. Thirty-five games have been played between the two teams in Lawrence where Kansas averages 18.4 points per contest. The last time a Jayhawk squad beat Oklahoma State at home came on Oct. 29, 1994 by a score of 24-14.

THIS DATE VS. OKLAHOMA STATE
The Jayhawks and Cowboys have met five times on Oct. 22 with Oklahoma State holding a 3-2 edge in those contests. The two squads first met on that date in 1949 in Stillwater where KU bested OSU 55-14 in front of 26,000 people. Right End Bill Schaake recorded a then-single-game record with 153 yards on eight receptions while quarterback Jerry Bogue threw two touchdown passes. Eleven years later in 1960, Kansas won the next Oct. 22 meeting, 14-7, where the 15th-ranked Jayhawks held the Cowboys to just 19 yards of offense in the second half and full back Doyle Schick recorded both of KU’s scores. Oklahoma State went on to win the next three games on Oct. 22, 10-7 in 1966; 21-0 in 1977; and 27-10 in 1983.
COWBOYS, JAYHAWKS INSIDE MEMORIAL STADIUM
Since Big 12 play started in 1996, Kansas and Oklahoma State have lined up six times on Kivisto Field inside Memorial Stadium with OSU winning all six contests outscoring KU 230-129. Overall, 35 games have been played between the two teams in Lawrence where Kansas averages 18.4 points per game. The last time a KU squad beat the Cowboys at home came on Oct. 29, 1994 by a score of 24-14 on Homecoming. The last two matchups in Memorial Stadium were decided by seven points or less. In 2014, Kansas nearly upset a then-No. 16 Oklahoma State team but a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by the Cowboys’ Tyreek Hill with 6:43 to play in the game ended the upset bid. In 2012, Kansas trailed OSU 20-0 with 14 minutes to play in the game. Tight end Jimmay Mundine caught a 21-yard strike from quarterback Michael Cummings before running back James Sims ripped of a 30-yard touchdown run to make it a one possession game with just under nine minutes to go in the game. However, a missed fourth-down conversion late in the game sealed KU’s fate, 20-14.
BYE, BYE, BYE
For the fourth time during the 2016 campaign, Kansas will play an opponent coming off a bye week in Oklahoma State. Only one other school in the country will play four opponents who have an extra week to prepare in Nevada. Previously, the Jayhawks faced Memphis, Texas Tech and Baylor all coming off a bye week, while Saturday’s contest marks the Cowboys’ first game in two weeks after defeating Iowa State, 38-31, Oct. 8.
DAS BOOT
Junior punter Cole Moos turned in a career day at No.11/8 Baylor (Oct. 15) earning himself the Jayhawks’ first Big 12 Weekly honor as the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week (Oct. 17). On his first punt of the game, Moos booted the ball a career-long 82 yards that tied for the fifth longest in Kansas History and the third-best in the Big 12 record books. That punt also marked the longest by a Jayhawk since Curtis Ansel kicked one 82 yards at UNLV in 2002 (Sept. 7). Moos finished the day with a 50.4-yard average on eight punts – the first 50-plus game average since Trevor Pardula averaged 51.8 yards on eight punts at Duke in 2014 (Sept. 4). That weekly award also marked the first for KU since Dexter McDonald took home the Defensive Player of the Week Award on Sept. 8, 2014. Pardula was the last KU player to snag a Special Teams Player of the Week award for KU as he was the winner on Sept. 23, 2013.
KICKOFF COVERAGE
Thanks in large part to the leg of senior kicker Matthew Wyman, Kansas has posted the 13th-best kickoff return defense in the nation and leads the Big 12 Conference allowing just 17.1 yards per return. Of the 28 kickoffs the Jayhawks have had in 2016, 20 have gone for a touch back with eight being returned for 137 yards. Following a kickoff, KU opponents’ average drive start is on the 23-yard line. Wisconsin leads the FBS allowing 14.7 yards per return. Oklahoma State ranks second in the Big 12 behind KU allowing 17.3 yards per return on 30 returns.
FOUR-STRAIGHT
Sophomore defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr., sacked the opposing team’s quarterback at least one time in four-straight games and leads the Jayhawks with 6.0 sacks on the season (1.0 sacks/game). Those numbers rank the Houston, Texas native first in the league and ninth in the country with Pittsburgh’s Ejuan Price (1.29 sacks/game) atop the FBS charts. That four-game streak is also the longest by a KU defender since linebacker James Holt recorded at least one sack in six-consecutive games to finish the 2008 season.
TACKLING FOR A LOSS
Kansas snapped a streak of four-straight games with nine or more TFLs in a game at No. 11/8 Baylor after KU defenders mustered just 4.0 TFLs including one sack. Through six games, the Jayhawks average 8.7 TFLs per game ranking them sixth in the FBS and first in the Big 12. If Kansas keeps this pace, it will be the third-best mark in school history and the best since 2007.
ALL HANDS ON DECK
Twenty-one different Jayhawks have combined to bring down opponents behind the line of scrimmage 52 times in 2016. Sophomore defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr. (8.0), senior defensive end Cameron Rosser (7.0), senior linebacker Marcquis Roberts (5.5), senior linebacker Courtney Arnick (4.0), sophomore defensive tackle Daniel Wise (4.0) and senior defensive end Damani Mosby (4.0) combined to account for 63 percent (32.5-of-52) of the team’s total.
