Jayhawks travel to Notre Dame to finish fall play

LAWRENCE, Kan. – For the final fall tournament of the 2016-17 season, six members of the Kansas women’s tennis team will travel to Notre Dame, Indiana, for the Notre Dame Fall Invitational this weekend.

The Jayhawks have not competed together for three weeks since the ITA Central Regional.

“It’s been a few weeks since we’ve traveled together,” said head coach Todd Chapman. “I think most times, as coaches, when you look at the last event of the fall season, you’re looking for continued growth, which I feel like at each tournament we’ve been at a better starting point than we were at the last. That’s a goal – hopefully we’ll be at a better starting point as a team than we were at regionals.”

After a quick-paced fall season, Kansas will face three more competitive teams this weekend. They will see the host, Notre Dame, along with Illinois and Denver.

“With the three other teams that are there besides us it will be highly competitive, very good tennis,” said Chapman. “We’ll be pushed. There shouldn’t be any easy matches. We’ll see where we’ve gotten better and we’ll see the areas we still need to get better at. It will help us set up the direction we’re going for the offseason next month before finals.

“Hopefully by the end of the tournament we have a lot to build on into the spring season. We want to finish on a positive note and a competitive note and feel good. As a coach, you want your players to feel good about their games and where we are as a team.”

They Jayhawks will kick off their last tournament of the fall season Friday morning.
