CATOOSA, Okla. – Kansas rowing wrapped up fall competition with improved times on day two of the Tulsa Fall Invitational on Saturday.

In a rematch of the Jayhawk Jamboree, where the Tulsa Varsity 8 ‘A’ took first-place, the Jayhawks Varsity 8 ‘A’ prevailed on the Golden Hurricanes’ home water, the Verdigris River. KU’s marquee boat, featuring coxswain Kenzie Obrochta, Angie Allen, BriAnna Dittberner, Kaelyn Thierolf, Olivia Loney, Jordan Helms, Margret Winter, McKayla Ross and Meghan Karoly, finished with a time of 14:14.1, four seconds ahead of Tulsa’s 14:19.4 time.

KU’s Varsity 8 ‘B’ finished in fourth in the race with a time of 14:34.8.

“I was really pleased with all our boats today, but our A and B eights especially improved on the times they recorded during the Jayhawk Jamboree a few weeks ago,” Kansas head coach Rob Catloth said. “As a whole, we have been pretty evenly matched with Tulsa over the last few years so this is a good measuring stick to where we are at as a team.”

Three Kansas Novice 4 boats also competed in the final day of the Tulsa Fall Invitational. The Novice 4 ‘C’ finished second with a time of 19:01.7, followed by ‘A’ in third at 19:17.9 and ‘B’ in fourth with a 19:33.0 time.

The regatta was concluded with Varsity 8 sprints, where Kansas boats finished third, fourth, eighth and ninth, respectively.

UP NEXT
The Jayhawks will trek to Tampa, Florida for winter training in early January before beginning spring competition in a duel against Tulsa on March 4.

“Throughout the last couple weeks of preparation, we talked about racing more aggressively to prepare ourselves for the spring,” Catloth said. “We will go into winter training with the mindset of working on our fitness each day so we can be ready come springtime.”
