Aldridge Recognized for Efforts in the Classroom

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas sophomore Lauren Aldridge has paced the Kansas women’s basketball team on the hardwood all season, but it’s not just her work ethic on the court that deserves recognition. Aldridge’s achievements in the classroom have garnered attention after being named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District selection on Thursday.

On the court, Aldridge has started every game this season averaging 35.1 minutes per contest. Aldridge leads the team with 10.4 points per game behind 34.9 percent shooting from the field. She has continued her trend of sinking shots from beyond the arc, making 36.8 percent of her attempts from the three-point line. Aldridge leads the team with 49 assists and is averaging 1.7 rebounds per game.

Aldridge has donned the Crimson and Blue for a full season and now, in the midst of year two, the young point guard is making the most of her time in Lawrence on and off the court. The Marshfield, Missouri native is double majoring in political science and journalism with hopes of pursuing a career in coaching men’s basketball or sports broadcasting.

Aldridge’s honor marks the first time a KU women’s basketball has received CoSIDA All-District honors since 2001 when Jennifer Jackson was selected as a recipient. Aldridge’s first-team recognition puts her in contention for All-America honors.

To be nominated for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third team All-America honorees will be selected.
