Bri Young Joins Kansas Soccer Staff

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer head coach Mark Francis announced Monday the addition of Bri Young to the Jayhawk coaching staff as an assistant coach. Young brings a wealth of both coaching and playing experience after she spent the last three seasons on the Texas Tech coaching staff, while also attaining All-America status twice during her four seasons (2008-11) at Texas A&M.

“Bri really stood out to us when we began this process,” said Francis. “When you’ve been named an All-American, you’ve obviously performed at a very high level, and she did it at a program that has had a lot of success. So immediately she stands out as a person with some valuable experience as a player.

“(Texas Tech head coach) Tom Stone is a good friend of mine and he spoke very highly of Bri and the coaching job she did while she was in Lubbock. So we have brought in someone who has proven herself in both areas, as a player and a coach. She’s going to be a great addition to our staff, not only in terms of her personality, but also for what she’s going to bring as a coach.”

Prior to coming to Kansas, Young spent three highly successful years as a volunteer assistant and director of operations for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. She helped lead the Red Raiders to two of their best seasons in program history during her tenure as Texas Tech made three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament while advancing to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 2014. She also helped lead the Red Raiders to the program’s first Big 12 Tournament Championship in 2015.

Young joined the Tech program after serving in coaching roles at both Chaparral High School in Colorado and on three separate staffs within the Real Colorado organization, one of the top youth clubs in the nation.

“I am so excited to join the Jayhawk family,” said Young. “Coach Francis and Coach (Kelly) Miller have put Kansas on the map as a great soccer school and I can’t wait to get started with this awesome group of players.”

Young, a native of Castle Pines North, Colorado, entered the coaching profession after a stellar career at Texas A&M where she earned both NSCAA All-American and All-Big 12 honors. The Aggies advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of her four seasons at A&M from 2008-11, while also claiming the Big 12 regular-season title in 2010 and the conference tournament championship in 2011.

The talented midfielder was an All-Big 12 First Team selection in 2010 and garnered NSCAA All-America honors as well. Young was named a freshman first-team All-American and a third-team All-American by Soccer Buzz in 2008 while also earning All-Big 12 second team and All-Big 12 newcomer team accolades as well.

Young, who also played internationally as part of the U.S. U-20 and U-23 National Teams, was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List prior to her senior season, which is presented annually to the top collegiate player in the country.

In addition to her success on the pitch, Young was also an Academic All-Big 12 first-team selection as a senior. She graduated from Texas A&M in 2011 with a degree in sports management.

Young joins a Kansas team that has posted back-to-back 10-win seasons and advanced to the program’s first Big 12 Tournament Championship game in 2015.
