Schneider Inks Junior College Transfer Watts

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas head women’s basketball coach Brandon Schneider inked junior college transfer Eboni Watts to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play for the Jayhawks in 2016-17.

Watts, a native of Macon, Georgia, will add depth to Kansas’ backcourt after two seasons at Tallahassee Community College. She is the second signee during the 2016 signing period after graduate transfer Sydney Umeri joined the Jayhawks roster last week.

“Eboni is a strong, athletic guard who adds depth to our perimeter,” said Schneider. “Offensively, she has a terrific mid-range game and her strength, quickness and hard-nosed mentality enable her to be very disruptive on the defensive end.”

Watts started 21 games and appeared in 22 as a sophomore, while averaging 33.2 minutes per contest. She registered 14.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game during the 2015-16 season. Watts shot 33.7 percent from the field on the season and 34 percent in conference play. At the conclusion of her sophomore season, Watts was named First-Team All-Panhandle Conference, her second career league award.

During her freshman campaign with Tallahassee Community College, Watts averaged 8.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists. She made 22 starts and appeared in 31 games while earning Second-Team All-Panhandle Conference and being named to the PC Media All-Freshmen Team. Watts recorded a career-best 18 points and nine rebounds against Gulf Coast State. Overall in 620 minutes played, she registered 18 double-digit scoring efforts as a rookie.

Prior to playing at Tallahassee Community College, Watts prepped at Rutland High School under head coach Johnny Dixon. The guard played in 50 games while averaging 13.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest.
