KU Track Sees Six Named to All-Academic Lists

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Thursday that six members of the 2016 Kansas men’s and women’s track & field teams were named to the All-Academic Honorees list. A total of 570 men from 161 institutions and 910 women from 192 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2015-16 track & field season.

Three KU women were named to the list, which included departing senior Dasha Tsema, junior Courtney Coppinger and sophomore Laura Taylor, each of whom maintained above a 3.25 GPA for the year. All three Jayhawks earned trips to the NCAA West Regional Preliminary by way of being ranked in the top-48 in the NCAA in their respective events.

Kansas also saw three men receive All-Academic honors. Senior runner Evan Landes saw his name on the All-Academic list and was joined by junior Nick Maestretti, who was awarded for his work in the classroom for the third-straight year. Both were joined by sophomore thrower Nicolai Ceban who was honored for the first time.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top-96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
