KU Golfer Fonseca Diaz Named All-American Scholar

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Kansas sophomore-to-be Ariadna Fonseca Diaz was named a Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Tuesday by the organization. A total of 828 women’s collegiate golfers were recognized with the honor and criteria for selection is to have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50.
 
This is the second academic accolade for Fonseca Diaz within the past month. In June the Caracas, Venezuela, native was named to the 2015-16 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team and was one of 39 conference honorees with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
 
A two-time member of the Athletic Director’s and Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Rolls, Fonseca Diaz played in all 11 team events for Kansas during the 2015-16 campaign. She recorded two top-10 finishes, including a fourth-place outcome at the Schooner Classic (Sept. 19-21). On the year, Fonseca Diaz shot 75.55 per round and 92.5 percent of her rounds counted toward the team score, which was third best on the squad. She had six rounds of par or lower during her freshman season at KU.
