Geubelle Qualifies for Olympic Games

RESULTS

EUGENE, Ore. – Andrea Geubelle, a three-time NCAA Champion while a member of the Kansas Track & Field team from 2010-13, punched her ticket to the Rio Olympics after she claimed third place in the triple jump at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials Thursday night inside Hayward Field.

The University Place, Washington product entered the day as the second-ranked American in the triple jump and lived up to that billing Thursday night. Geubelle opened her day with 13.72 meter  mark (45’0.25″) on the first attempt of six, good for third-place overall. Unable to improve on her next three atempts, she found herself in fourth place heading into her final two attempts.

On her fifth trip down the runway, Geubelle leaped to a mark of 13.95 meters (45’9.25″) catapulting her into the all-important top three. Geubelle was unable to improve on her final attempt, but she still managed to nab a third-place finish and earn her first Olympic bid.

Geubelle’s qualification will make her the second current or former KU track athlete to qualify for Rio this year after Daina Levy punched her ticket for Jamaica in the hammer throw. Geubelle is now set compete in the triple qualifying rounds at next month’s Olympic Games, which are scheduled to get underway on Saturday, Aug. 13.
