Jayhawk duo falls in 2016 ITA National Collegiate Summer Circuit

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A pair of Jayhawk sophomores in Janet Koch and Anastasia Rychagova had successful runs at the 2016 ITA National Collegiate Summer Circuit, each posting wins over higher seeded opponents before falling in Monday’s quarterfinal round held at the UIndy Tennis Center at the University of Indianapolis.

Koch and Rychagova navigated their way through the women’s singles draw unblemished until the quarterfinal round. Koch concluded the tournament with a 3-1 mark after falling to Texas Tech’s Alexandra Valentstein in an extremely tightly contested match, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4). Rychagova also recorded three wins before dropping a 6-4, 6-3 match at the hands of the top seed, Jose Kuhlman of Florida.

Koch, Rychagova and their Jayhawk teammates will soon be kicking off the 2016-17 campaign as the 2016 fall semester will commence Monday, Aug. 22. KU also returns junior Summer Collins and sophomore Nina Khmelnitckaia and will add senior transfer Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum and freshmen Tatiana Nikolaeva and Maria Toran Ribes to the roster as it looks to make its second-straight NCAA Championship appearance under fourth-year head coach Todd Chapman.
