Mason, Jayhawks take part in Honorary First Pitch at Kauffman Stadium

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Frank Mason III’s first Major League Baseball game in his life set the bar high. The senior All-Big 12 guard made his baseball debut by throwing out the first pitch to commence KU Day at The K on Sunday afternoon before the Kansas City Royals played host to the Minnesota Twins at Kauffman Stadium.

Mason was chose to represent the Jayhawks on the mound, while junior guard Devonte’ Graham caught the first pitch behind home plate.

Mason and Graham were joined by teammates Tucker Vang, Clay Young, Tyler Self, Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and Carlton Bragg Jr., on the field for the first pitch.

Reigning Associated Press National Coach of the Year Bill Self took part in a brief interview tour with the Royals Radio Network and FOX Sports Kansas City during the game.

The first 4,000 fans in attendance with a KU Day ticket were given a gray Royals hat with a Jayhawk on the side.
