Look for gameday changes at Memorial Stadium

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Thanks to the information acquired from ticket holder surveys, “secret shopper” programs, focus groups and general feedback, patrons attending Kansas football games this fall at Memorial Stadium should experience some positive changes to the fan experience for the 2016 season.

Improvements with customer service, concessions, mobile enhancements and pregame and in-game experiences highlight the most significant changes.

As part of the “secret shopper” program utilized by KU, each customer-centric area was evaluated and provided a report of performance. To complete the process those areas – parking services, ticket takers, ushers, concessionaires, etc. – met as a group to discuss the observations and ideas for improvement. In addition, restroom attendants have been added to every restroom in the stadium to keep bathrooms clean and lines moving.

Memorial Stadium concessions will showcase a variety of new items and stands. “The Lighter Side” located near sections 7 and 20 will feature grilled chicken sandwiches, veggie burgers, chicken salad, fruit cups and yogurt. Fans will also want to visit the “Bavarian Pretzel Cart” with parmesan butter and herb pretzels, pizza pretzels and pretzel bites. Some other new additions will be the giant smoked turkey leg and tornado potato fries. Click here to see a complete concession map and offerings.

Additional concession improvements are targeted specifically at KU students as members of the student body showing their KU ID will be offered a 15 percent discount on any purchase at all permanent concession stands. Students will also have the ability to use their “Beak’Em Bucks” that are pre-loaded on their student ID card at seven permanent stands adjacent to the student section. A combo meal will also be available to students. The “Coach Beaty Combo” features a hot dog, popcorn and a drink for $8.00 and is exclusively for students.

Last season, a distributed antenna system (DAS) was deployed throughout the stadium to improve cell phone coverage. This year charging stations will be added throughout the venue and Kansas Athletics has updated its ticket scanners to now handle mobile ticketing.

Fans should also notice improved signage and information on the four corners of the stadium to keep fans better informed on when and where events are happening during the pregame. Both the bus and golf cart shuttle options will be available again this year to help patrons navigate the on-campus facility. For a complete breakdown of parking and shuttle information, click here.

During those early games when the weather is on the warmer side, misting fans will be available to all patrons on the outer concourse on both the east and west sides. Speaking of warm weather, as always, Kansas Athletics allows one unopened bottle of water per patron to be brought into Memorial Stadium.

There will also be enhancements on the hill as part of pregame. The mobile videoboard at the base of the hill has been upgraded in quality and picture, while a temporary stage will be added next to it. Prior to game time, the stage will feature a DJ to entertain the tailgate crowd until 30 minutes prior to kick, when the Jayhawk Network pregame television show will be conducted and displayed on the adjacent videoboard. There will also be a break in the action when the Jayhawks come down the hill for the Hawk Walk two hours prior to kickoff.

Complimentary “watch and win” cards will be provided at the gates to give the fans chances to win prizes and discounts from participating sponsors. Also, several in-game improvements and video animations will be introduced and fans will want to make sure they are in their seats when the Jayhawks take the field prior to kickoff.

Kansas is set to begin the 2016 season on Saturday, September 3, as it plays host to Rhode Island. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m., from Memorial Stadium with a live broadcast on the Jayhawk TV Network and ESPN3.

Season tickets for the six-game home schedule are now on sale for as low as $115. The Family Season Ticket Plan, which includes two youth and two adult general admission tickets, is $400.

Kansas Athletics is offering a new Pick 2 Flex Pack ticket package for Jayhawk football games for the 2016 season. As part of the Pick 2 Flex Pack ticket option, fans can choose any two of KU’s six home games, with Pick 2 Flex Pack plans ranging in price from $105-$120.
