Junior wide receiver LaQuvionte Gonzalez took back a kick return 99 yards for a touchdown against Ohio. It marked Gonzalez’ first-ever kick return for a score and was the first kickoff return for a touchdown for a Jayhawk since Ryan Schadler returned one for 91 yards against South Dakota State (Sept. 5, 2015). That 99-yard kick return was also the fifth-longest in school history, surpassing Dezmon Briscoe’s 98-yard return against Texas (Nov. 21, 2009).

Notes QUICK HITS

• Sophomore wide receiver Steven Sims Jr., has put together a strong start to his 2016 campaign as he is one of just eight receivers in the FBS to open the season with 100-yard receiving games in the first two weeks. Against Ohio, Sims led the Jayhawks with his second-straight 100-yard receiving game with 114 yards on four catches. He tied a career best with two receiving TDs for the second-consecutive week as he hauled in two scores against the Bobcats. Sims’ first touchdown reception, a 74-yard TD catch in the third quarter, is the longest reception of his career. Sims’ back-to-back 100-yard receiving games are the first for a Jayhawk since Nigel King tallied two-straight 100-yard receiving games in 2014.
• The Kansas defense tallied 14.0 tackles for loss against Ohio, the most in a single game for the Jayhawks since the 2007 squad also recorded 14.0 against Florida International (Sept. 22). The last time Kansas recorded more than 14 tackles for loss was earlier in the 2007 season when the Jayhawks feasted on Southeast Louisiana (Sept. 8) for 20.0. Sophomore defensive tackle Daniel Wise led the charge against Ohio with 4.0 TFLs, while senior linebacker Marcquis Roberts, junior linebacker Joe Dineen Jr., senior defensive end Cameron Rosser and senior safety Tevin Shaw each contributed 2.0 TFLs.
• Three different Jayhawks recorded 10 or more tackles in the loss to Ohio, led by senior safety Bazie Bates IV, who tallied 11 total tackles. Bates, whose 11 stops against the Bobcats marked the first double-digit tackling effort in his career, posted nine solo stops and a pass breakup. Joining Bates in double-figure tackles were Roberts (10) and Dineen (10).
