Jayhawk Tennis Center makes its debut Friday

LAWRENCE, Kan. – It has been a banner 12 months for the Kansas tennis program. The Jayhawks ended a 17-year drought from the NCAA Tournament, finished the 2016 season ranked No. 33 nationally, notched a 17-8 overall mark, good for second place in the Big 12 Conference and Friday will compete for the first time in their new $9 million Jayhawk Tennis Center at Rock Chalk Park.

KU will host Saint Louis in the first-dual match of the spring for both teams.  Admission is free. The match is slated to begin at 5 p.m., CT.

“I think the fans are really going to enjoy the line of sight,” head coach Todd Chapman said when describing the fan experience at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. “They are going to have a great view of any court they want to watch. They will have the ability to be up behind the courts and look left, or look right, and watch multiple matches. Everyone is going to be extremely impressed with the views.”

To kick off the season and new facility, the first 30 fans in attendance will be given a pre-match private tour of the venue.  In addition, pizza will be provided to all fans in attendance while supplies last, as well red and blue poms and team posters.

After the completion of the match, the members of the Jayhawk tennis team, and coaches, will remain on the courts to host a free youth clinic.

The indoor and outdoor facility is officially located at 100 Rock Chalk Lane in Lawrence.
