 LAWRENCE, Kan. – After a two-game road stretch, Kansas women’s basketball returns to Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 28, to host Texas Tech in its annual Go Red for Women’s Health game. Tipoff against the Lady Raiders is slated for 11 a.m., Central. 

AROUND THE ARENA
Saturday morning’s game is KU women’s basketball’s annual Go Red For Women day inside Allen Fieldhouse. Go Red for Women encourages awareness of heart disease in women.  All Fans that wear red on Saturday will receive $5 admission to the contest against Texas Tech.

FAST BREAKS

• Saturday’s contest is the first meeting between Kansas and Texas Tech in 2017. The Lady Raiders have won the last two matchups against KU. 
• Texas Tech has a 19-8 lead in the all-time series, which began in 1978. Kansas is 6-7 when playing the Lady Raiders inside Allen Fieldhouse.
• Six of Kansas’ first seven Big 12 Conference games of 2017 were against nationally-ranked opponents. Kansas is 0-6 against teams ranked in the top 25 this season.
• Redshirt junior guard Jessica Washington has led all scorers in six of nine Big 12 contests in 2017. Washington leads the league in scoring in Big 12 only games with 20.2 points per contest and is ranked third in the conference in all games with 16.4 points per game.
• Washington made 7-of-10 (.700) attempts from the 3-point line at K-State (1/11) and ended the contest one triple shy of tying KU’s single-game record of eight set in 1996 by Charisse Sampson. At Oklahoma State (1/25), Washington made 6-of-12 attempts from long range for her second game shooting 50 percent or higher with 10 more attempts from the 3-point line.

ABOUT THE JAYHAWKS
Kansas returns to Allen Fieldhouse to Texas Tech after a two-game swing on the road. The Jayhawks nearly completed a come-from-behind victory at Oklahoma State (1/25), but the Cowgirls held on in the final minute of the game, 74-70 .During the first meeting of the year between KU and the Lady Raiders, Kansas looks to snap its nine-game losing skid. KU is 6-14 on the season and has a 0-9 mark in league play. 

The Jayhawks are averaging 62.3 points per game with a scoring margin of -9.6. KU is making 33.4 percent of its shots from the field, while converting 29.4 percent of its attempts from the 3-point line. Kansas is averaging 39.5 boards per game. The Jayhawks have also swiped 9.5 steals per contest, good for the third-most by any team in the conference. 

Redshirt junior guard Jessica Washington leads the team with 16.4 points per game behind 34.3 percent shooting from the field. During Big 12 Conference play, Washington tops in the league with 20.2 points per game after leading all scorers in six of her last nine outings. In conference action, Washington is connecting on 36.9 percent of her attempts, including 42.4 percent of her shots from long range. Redshirt sophomore guard McKenzie Calvert is also averaging double digits for the season with 11.9 points per game. 

Sophomore guard Kylee Kopatich is third on the squad with 9.2 points per game and has recorded double-digit scoring performances in six of her last seven starts. 

SCOUTING THE LADY RAIDERS
Texas Tech enters the matchup with a three-game losing skid after opening league play with three wins its first five games. The Lady Raiders are 11-8 on the season, including a 3-5 mark in conference action. TTU is 0-7 on the road this season and has won the last two meetings between the two programs. 

The Lady Raiders are averaging 70.7 points per game and have a +5.7 scoring margin. Texas Tech is shooting 44.4 percent from the field and is converting 40.4 percent of its attempts from the 3-point arc. Defensively, TTU is averaging 39.0 rebounds, 6.6 steals and 5.0 blocks per game. 

Sophomore guard Recee’ Caldwell is one of three Lady Raiders averaging double figures and leads the squad with 16.3 points per game behind a 39.1 field goal percentage. Caldwell also leads the team with 82 assists. Freshman guard Arella Guirantes is netting 12.1 points per game, while junior center Jada Terry is scoring 11.5 points per contest. Defensively, Terry leads the squad with 6.8 rebounds per game and has recorded 25 blocks, second-most on the team.

THIS DAY IN KU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HISTORY
Record on Jan. 28: 5-7
Saturday morning’s contest is the 13th time in program history that Kansas has played on Jan. 28. On this day in 2015, the Jayhawks knocked off the Iowa State, 61-56, in Ames for the first time in nine years. Cheslea Gardner led the way for KU for the third game in row, posting her 24th-career double-double and sixth double-double this season with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

RISING IN THE RANKS
After recording four blocks at Oklahoma State (1/25), senior forward Caelynn Manning-Allen moved into 10th place all-time in Kansas’ record book for career blocks. Manning-Allen has swatted away 102 blocks in her career and needs four more to move into ninth place. Senior Timeka O’Neal has a career 3-point field goal average of 39.6 (74-of-187), which is the second-best shooting percentage from long range and surpasses her former teammates Natalie Knight’s mark of 38.2 percent.
