Jayhawk Jamboree kicks off start of fall season

LAWRENCE, Kan. – For the first time this season, Kansas rowing will hit the water against competition at the fifth annual Jayhawk Jamboree on Sunday, Oct. 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Burcham Park in Lawrence.

In its only regatta on the Kansas River, KU welcomes nine teams and over 130 boats to race along the stretch of river in Lawrence. Among the competition are boats from varsity and club crew teams, including Kansas State, Oklahoma, Tulsa, Iowa, Creighton, Wichita State, Colorado, Central Oklahoma and UMKC.

The Jamboree is the first of two fall regattas for the Jayhawks and their first chance to compete against conference foes, Kansas State and Oklahoma. Although the Jamboree is the only regatta held in Lawrence during the 2017-18 season, fans can still cheer on the Jayhawks at two more home regattas in the spring. Kansas will host a Big 12 Double Dual and the Dillons Sunflower Showdown at Wyandotte County Lake in Kansas City, Kansas.

“The Jamboree is definitely very special with everything that goes on around the event to make it a fun atmosphere,” interim head coach Carrie Cook-Callen said. “We’re definitely looking forward to that first competition and kick-off the true start of our season in the competitive nature.”

In between the races, fans can enjoy all the Jamboree has to offer on the banks of the river. Spectators can take advantage of food trucks from local vendors, a fun zone, live music and more while the Jayhawks take on some of the best competition rowing has to offer.
Come out to support the Jayhawks on the river while enjoying a fun-filled afternoon for all ages.

PARKING
Parking will be available on the grass lot on Second Street outside Burcham Park and at the lot on the Second Street and Maine Street intersection. Handicap accessible parking will be available inside Burcham Park. Parking shuttles will be available to fans throughout the surrounding premises of the Jayhawk Jamboree.

UP NEXT
After the Jamboree, Kansas will travel to Oklahoma for Tulsa’s Fall Regatta Nov. 3-4.
