KU women’s hoops delivers ‘Jayhawks for Cure’ funds to LMH

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Instead of hitting the hardwood, Kansas women’s basketball spent Friday afternoon touring the oncology center and delivering funds raised during the 2016-17 season to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Over the past year, KU, along with its ‘Jayhawks for a Cure’ initiative, raised $4,500 for cancer awareness and research. All proceeds were raised via Kansas’ annual ‘Jayhawks for a Cure’ game and live auction.

The money raised by the Jayhawks will be used to ensure that the LMH Breast Center stays on the leading edge of oncology care. Additionally, the gift will provide support for mammograms for patients who might not otherwise be able to afford them. Vouchers for free mammograms are available through the LMH Breast Center; contact Dave Watson at david.watson@lmh.org for more information.

Kansas returns seven letterwinners from the 2016-17 campaign and added seven newcomers during the offseason. The season gets underway with exhibition games in Allen Fieldhouse against Emporia State (10/29) and Pittsburg State (11/5).
