Kansas travels to Palmetto Intercollegiate
KIWAH ISLAND, S.C.– It has been two weeks since Kansas women’s golf won the Chip-N-Club Invitational where the Jayhawks had four top-10 finishers. Kansas has been hard at work since its last victory and is ready to finish the last event of the fall season strong.
“We spent about a week or so checking in to the technical and mechanical parts of our games,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “We had qualifying to figure out the line-up and this week we’ve been focusing more on the mental piece of the game and working on course management.”
To finish up the fall portion of their season, the Jayhawks will travel to Kiwah Island, South Carolina, to compete at the Palmetto Intercollegiate held at Turtlepoint.
“We’ve been working at The Jayhawk Club which is similar to the narrowness of it and strategic thinking needed which helped with getting us ready for Turtle Point,” said O’Neil. “It’s normally not set up very long, it’s more about being accurate off the tee. It’s pretty scorable but if you miss off the tee you’re usually going to end up in a hazard or having to take a penalty stroke. We need to be patient with that and take advantage of the birdie opportunities when we have them.”
Yi-Tsen Chou and Victoria Chandra were the top finishers at the Chip-N-Club Invitational, where they both posted a career-best fourth-place finish. Chou will lead the Jayhawks at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in the first spot, followed by Chandra in the second position.
Freshman Sera Tadokoro has had an impressive start to her first collegiate season with an eighth-place finish at the Chip-N-Club Invitational. Tadokoro will be in the third position in the Palmetto Intercollegiate.
Pitsinee Winyarat, who has had two top-10 finishes this season, will be in the fourth position for the Jayhawks followed by Ariadna Fonseca Diaz.
Kansas will face Boston University, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, College of Charleston, Daytona State, East Tennessee State, Kennesaw State, Marshall, Mercer, Ole Miss, North Florida, Old Dominion, Troy, Tulsa, UNCG and Xavier.
“We need to keep building on what we started this fall and really focus on the process of each shot,” said O’Neil. “We don’t need to get caught up too much in results because if you can do that and focus on what’s in your control, the good things usually take care of themselves. We need to just enjoy the game and embrace the challenge of the ups and downs of it. If we can do that, we’ll have a good finish and have a good idea of what to work on over the break.”
Round one of the three-day event will start October 22 and conclude on October 24.
