Rigdon named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week a second time

IRVING, Texas – Kansas volleyball notched its sixth Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award on Monday as senior All-American outside hitter Madison Rigdon was given the honor for the second time this season.

Rigdon guided Kansas (18-3, 7-1 Big 12) to a pair of three-set sweeps at No. 24 Baylor and against Texas Tech by leading the conference in kills per set (5.33) and points per set (6.17) during week nine of the season. Rigdon’s .397 hitting percentage in the last two matches ranked fifth in the Big 12 and first among non-middle blockers.

The Pflugerville, Texas, native tied a career high for kills in a three-set match with 18 during KU’s win at Baylor on Wednesday, Oct. 18. The win over the 24th-ranked Bears marked a program-record fourth top-25 victory for the Jayhawks. She kept her hot streak alive with 14 kills on a .407 hitting percentage during KU’s sweep over Texas Tech on Saturday, Oct. 21.

With 32 total kills during week nine, Rigdon cracked KU’s top-10 list for career kills — entering the week in 11th-place and ending the week in ninth with 1,181 career kills.

Rigdon leads the Big 12 in points per set (4.45) during conference play this season.

Kansas has earned six of the nine Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week awards this season.

The Jayhawks begin the second half of the Big 12 Conference’s double-round-robin play as Oklahoma visits Horejsi Family Athletics Center on Wednesday night (6:30 p.m., JTV/ESPN3).

RANKINGS UPDATE
Kansas remained at No. 11 in the AVCA Coaches Poll released on Monday afternoon. For the first time in the 35-year history of the poll, the entire top-25 remained in the same position for consecutive weeks. The Jayhawks are also No. 11 in the NCAA RPI this week.
