Jayhawks and Lady Hornets face off on the hardwood
Beginning in August 2017, fans will be allowed to bring only one clear plastic bag no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches or a one-gallon, clear, resealable plastic storage bag per person inside Kansas athletics events.
Fans will also be allowed a small clutch purse not to exceed 5.5 inches by 8.5 inches.

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas women’s basketball continues nonconference action with its first matchup against Delaware State in program history on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m., inside Allen Fieldhouse. The game will be broadcast on the Jayhawk Television Network/ESPN3 and the Jayhawk Radio Network.

- Wilson notched KU’s first double-double of the season during Sunday’s matchup with Yale (11/19), scoring 14 points (5-of-8) and bringing down 10 rebounds. The Rayville, Louisiana native also added three assists in the Jayhawks 81-75 victory over the Bulldogs.
- Kansas Athletics is celebrating the 50-year milestone of women’s varsity sports, including one of the original six sports, women’s basketball. KU enters its 50th season after becoming a varsity sport in 1968-69 and has compiled a 802-614 overall record.
About the Jayhawks
After two successful exhibition games, Kansas opened the 2017-18 season with three-straight victories over Campbell, Texas Southern and Yale, marking the first time under head coach Brandon Schneider that the Jayhawks have gotten off to a 3-0 start to the season.
Junior guards Kylee Kopatich and Christalah Lyons have each netted double-digit scoring efforts in each of the last three games for the Jayhawks and are both shooting 50.0 percent or better from the field. Kopatich leads four Kansas players averaging double figures in 2017-18 with 19.0 points per game. She is also shooting 45.8 percent from long range and averaging just under four 3-point field goals per game. Lyons averages 16.0 points per game, while dishing out an average of four assists in each of KU’s three contests thus far. Junior guard Brianna Osorio averages 11.0 points per game through three matchups, while freshman forward Micaela Wilson has notched 10.0 points per game in two appearances. Wilson also earned KU’s first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds against Yale on Sunday, Nov. 19.
Kansas is shooting 43.1percent from the field and six Jayhawks are sinking 50 percent or higher of their shots. Redshirt-sophomore forward Tyler Johnson leads the team after making 61.5 percent of her attempts from the floor.
Defensively, KU is holding its opponents to just 53.3 points per game and limiting the opposition to a 30.1 field goal percentage, leading the Big 12 in defensive shooting percentage.
Scouting the Lady Hornets
After winning just three games in the 2016-17 campaign, the Lady Hornets are looking to make strides in the 2017-18 season under the leadership of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year, NaJai Pollard. The Richmond, Virginia native was selected by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors to receive the honor. Pollard led the MEAC in both scoring and rebounding in her sophomore season, averaging 18.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. The 5-11 forward also led the league in field goal percentage, shooting 57.1 percent from the field in the 2016-17 season. Nationally, Pollard was ranked seventh in the nation last season with 12 double-doubles. She was also ranked in the top 25 in offensive rebounding, averaging 4.0 per game and made free throws with 150.
Under Pollard’s leadership, the Lady Hornets were chosen to finish 11th out of 13 teams in the MEAC, falling above South Carolina State and North Carolina Central.
Delaware State returns six players from the 2016-17 team and welcomed eight newcomers to its roster. Freshman guard Ryan Jones has proved to be a key newcomer for the Lady Hornets, contributing 10 points, four steals and four assists in DSU’s 96-72 loss at Temple.
This Day in Kansas Women’s Basketball History
Record on Nov. 22: 5-1
When playing on Nov. 22, KU has compiled a 5-1 record. During the 2009-10 season on Nov. 22, the then-19th-ranked Jayhawks topped Michigan, 77-66. Kansas was led by Sade Morris who scored a career-high 26 points in the contest. Morris became the 21st Jayhawk to join the 1,000 point club after her career afternoon.
Freshmen Firsts
Forward Micaela Wilson notched several firsts in her second game in the Crimson and Blue. The Rayville, Louisiana native earned her first double-double of the season and the first of the 2017-18 season for Kansas. Wilson notched her first double-figure scoring effort for the Jayhawks with 14 points in the KU’s win over Yale. Center Bailey Helgren made her first collegiate start on Sunday, Nov. 19 against Yale, scoring four points and pulling down five rebounds in Kansas’ 81-75 victory.
D-D-D-DEFENSE
After three games in 2017-18, Kansas’ tough defense has been on display inside Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks have limited their opponents to an average of 53.3 points per game. KU has also held its opponents to just 30.1 percent shooting from the field, which leads the Big 12 in defensive shooting percentage.
