Jayhawks add junior college standout to 2017 class

The Kansas soccer team has added its eighth player to the signing class of 2017 with the addition of junior college transfer Maia Williams head coach Mark Francis announced Friday.

“Maia is a very quick and dynamic forward,” said Francis. “She has great finishing ability inside and around the box and can really stretch the opposing team’s back line. She will come in and immediately give us a strong finisher and add some great pace to our group of forwards.”

Williams, who will join the Jayhawks ahead of the 2017 fall season, has a strong collegiate and high school résumé. The Piscataway, New Jersey native played the last two years at Monroe College in New Rochelle, New York, helping the Mustangs to a regional and district championship as well as the NJCAA semifinals in 2015. In her sophomore season last fall, Williams scored 12 goals and added an assist in her 11 outings as Monroe went on to finish with a 9-1-3 record.

Prior to Monroe, Williams was a standout at Piscataway High School. She was a two-time all-district and all-area selection during her years with the Chiefs. In 2014 she scored 11 goals and posted two assists.

The Jayhawks will kick off their spring exhibition season in just over a month when they welcome in the Kansas Men’s Club team to Rock Chalk Park. Kickoff from Lawrence is slated for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15.
