For the third-consecutive week, freshman Jedah Caldwell managed to shave time off her season-best 200-meter clocking as she continued her climb up the national chart. The Chanhassen, Minnesota product completed her lap in 23.59 seconds at the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville, Arkansas to earn her second collegiate win in the event and rewrite her own Kansas freshman record. Caldwell’s run moved her into the top-30 of the latest collegiate rankings and has been topped by only three other NCAA DI freshmen in 2017.

Anastasia Rychagova registered wins at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles to help power a 5-2 Kansas victory over Wichita State (maybe say when?), ending the Shockers’ three-game win streak in the series. Rychagova earned her seventh win this season over a ranked opponent when she downed WSU’s Giulia Guidetti, ranked No. 113, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. The KU sophomore teamed with freshman Maria Toran Ribes for the first time this season and the Jayhawk tandem notched a 6-2 victory over the Shockers’ doubles team.

Hussain Al Hizam kept pace with Kansas teammate senior Nick Maestretti in the pole vault at the Arkansas Qualifier inside the Randal Tyson Track Center Friday. Both Jayhawks turned in career-best vaults by clearing 17 feet, 11 inches, which resulted in the best collegiate effort on the day. Al Hizam needed his third and final try to clear the height, but the marks moved both Jayhawks into the school’s all-time top-10 indoor list and to No. 11 on the most recent NCAA pole vault rankings. For the second-straight week, Al Hizam, a native of Saudi Arabia, set the national standard for his home country.

The Kansas floor leader came up huge again last week, especially in late-game situations, in the epic come-from-behind victory over No. 9 West Virginia inside Allen Fieldhouse and the 67-65 win at No. 4 Baylor. Mason averaged 23.5 points in the two victories, while shooting 93.2 percent (24-for-26) from the free throw line. He also averaged 6.5 assists and posted a 3.3 assist-to-turnover ration the week. Against WVU, Mason scored 24 points with 19 of those tallies coming in the second half and overtime periods. At Baylor, he put up a similar effort with 23 points, with 16 coming in the final 20 minutes.
