Chou’s consistency, Fonseca Diaz’s ace highlight day one of LSU Tiger Golf Classic

 BATON ROUGE, La. – Yi-Tsen Chou played two rounds of consistent golf Friday, scoring one-under par in round one and one-over par in round two to land herself in sixth place at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic. Chou recorded eight birdies over the first two rounds.
 
“Yi-Tsen has played very steady,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “She has been working hard on her swing and has been hitting lots of greens. It will be important for her to not focus on score and stick to the process of each shot during the final round.”
 
On her second hole of the day, sophomore Ariadna Fonseca Diaz scored a rare hole in one on the par-three 159-yard 13th hole. Fonseca Diaz shot a one-under, which put her in a tie for fourth place after the first round. Two costly double bogies in the second round put her in a tie for 22nd.
 
“We had a great first round this morning, especially Ari and Yi-Tsen,” O’Neil said. “We did a good job of putting ourselves in the right places in the fairways.”
 
Junior Pitsinee Winyarat scored a two-over 74 in the first round, but three double bogies and a triple bogey damaged her score, dropping her from 18th into a tie for 53rd.
 
Victoria Chandra ended round one six-over and in a tie for 57th place, and she remained around that part of the leaderboard finishing the second round in a tie for 60th. Chandra fired an eagle on the par-four 10th hole, but two triple bogies hindered her effort to climb the leaderboard.
 
Chomchana Phuchanbanchob struggled from the beginning, recording four bogies and a double bogey in her first eight holes in the first round. Her 78 landed her in a tie for 65th. She found similar trouble to begin the second round carding five bogies and a quadruple bogey in six of her first 10 holes, putting her in a tie for 73rd at the end of day one.
 
Freshman Annika Cedo, who is competing individually this weekend, shot a pair of 84s in the first two rounds to finish day one +24 and in a tie for 87th place.
 
The Jayhawks ended round one in fifth place, following a collective 294, and followed that score with a second round 310 to put them 28-over and in a tie for 10th with Missouri.
 
Duke leads the pack, followed by Arkansas, Oklahoma State, North Carolina State and Denver to round out the top five. The top four teams are all ranked in the top-30 of the GolfStat.com rankings.
