Jayhawks finish 11th at LSU Tiger Golf Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. – A solid weekend for freshman Yi-Tsen Chou gave her the second top-10 finish of her young career, finishing tied for eighth in the LSU Tiger Golf Classic. Chou shot a two-over 218 on the weekend. She followed a first round one-under with a second round one-over and a third round two-over.
 
“I’m very proud of Yi-Tsen and her efforts,” O’Neil said. “It is great to see a freshman have a top-10 finish in a strong field. She is hitting the ball very well and has made great strides with improving her course management.”
 
Sophomore Ariadna Fonseca Diaz finished tied for 22nd after shooting a six-over 222 after three rounds. Her weekend was highlighted with a first round ace on the 13th hole. Fonseca Diaz fired five birdies over the 54-hole event.
 
Following two consecutive six-over rounds, sophomore Victoria Chandra improved four strokes and carded a two-over in the third round to finish tied for 47th.
 
After a two-over first round, junior Pitsinee Winyarat could not duplicate similar success in the following rounds, carding a nine-over and eight-over in the second and third rounds, respectively.
 
Sophomore Jayhawk Chomchana Phuchanbanchob could not get into a groove this weekend, shooting a 24-over. Phuchanbanchob carded four birdies on the weekend.
 
Individual competitor Annika Cedo could not improve her place on the leaderboard, finishing in 88th place, after shooting 33-over after three rounds.
 
The Kansas women’s golf team shot a collective 41-over 905, which landed the team a spot in 11th place.
 
Duke won its second consecutive LSU Tiger Golf Classic, shooting a 10-under 854. Following Duke on the leaderboard were Oklahoma State, Arkansas, North Carolina State and Denver.
 
The Jayhawks will make a trip abroad next weekend, as the team will travel to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to compete in the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational, hosted by the University of Iowa April 3-4.
 
O’Neil has a plan of action for preparation for next week’s tournament.
 
“In preparation for our next event, we will continue to spend most of our time on the range this week to maintain the progress we have made with our swings and check in with our putting mechanics to gain more confidence around the greens,” O’Neil said.
