Schneider adds pair of transfers for 2017-18
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s basketball head coach Brandon Schneider added a pair of junior college transfers to the Jayhawks’ roster for the 2017-18 season.
Austin Richardson and Sara Boric have each signed valid National Letters of Intent to play for the Jayhawks starting next year. The juniors will have two seasons of eligibility remaining once on campus.
Richardson, a native of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, joins Kansas after two seasons at Johnson County Community College. At the conclusion of her sophomore campaign, Richardson garnered National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-America First Team honors.
“Austin is a long, athletic forward who is a terrific rebounder and has the ability to defend multiple positions,” Schneider said. “Offensively her game is very versatile. She can post, attack off the bounce, and shoot the 3-pointer. We’re excited to add one of the premier junior college players in the country to our roster. She is used to winning and we expect her to contribute immediately.”
The 2017 Kansas Jayhawk Conference MVP and first-team all-conference selection, Richardson was the league’s third-leading scorer with 15.1 points per game and was the top rebounder with 10.7 boards per game. She also recorded 20 double-doubles as a sophomore.
Richardson is one of only four players to record over 800 points and 500 rebounds in her career at Johnson County. She also helped the Lady Cavaliers post a 64-4 record over her two seasons.
Boric, a native of Kator Varos, Bosnia, comes to Kansas after a season at Northeast Oklahoma A&M and two seasons at North Carolina State. A 6-5 center, Boric started all 32 games for NEO this past season and was consistently ranked nationally as a Top-5 junior college center. Boric helped NEO to a 28-3 record, an OCAC championship, Regional II championship and an appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament.
“Sara adds a strong, physical presence to our frontline,” said Schneider. “She has good interior footwork and can score with her back to the basket or facing from the high post area. Sara has the mentality and build to defend the post players we face in the Big 12. She too comes from a winning program, brings international playing experience and will make a positive impact in our program.”
In 2014, Boric played in the U18 Women’s European Championship for Bosnia and Herzegovina. She helped her team achieve a fifth-place finish in Division B.
Richardson and Boric join the 2017 signing class that features Micaela Wilson, Brittany Franklin and Bailey Helgren.
