Jayhawks set to host Dillons Sunflower Showdown on Senior Day

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas rowing team hosts in-state rival Kansas State in the annual Dillons Sunflower Showdown on Friday at 5:45 p.m., on the Kansas River. The Jayhawks will be looking for their third-consecutive victory in the series.

The regatta, originally scheduled for Saturday at Wyandotte County Lake, was moved to Friday evening in Lawrence to avoid the rain that is forecasted throughout the weekend.

This year’s outcome will name a new series leader, as it stands the all-time Sunflower Showdown series is an even 10-10.

Last year, the Jayhawks started the regatta off strong with Third Varsity Eight and First Varsity Four victories, jumping out to an early 5-0 lead on Senior Day. Kansas proved to be unstoppable as the day continued, adding victories in both the Second Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight races.

The final race of the day was neck-in-neck, but the Jayhawks prevailed. Completing a clean sweep of the 2016 Sunflower Showdown, with a final tally of 22-0.
