STILLWATER, Okla. – Still without a complete lineup, Kansas women’s tennis wasn’t able to rally against No. 9-ranked Oklahoma State and fell, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
After a forfeit on court three during doubles action, the No. 35 duo of Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum and Nina Khmelnitckaia couldn’t top their No. 9-ranked opponent and dropped the match, 6-2, to OSU’s Vladica Babic and Carla Tur Mari.
“Credit to Oklahoma State today,” said head coach Todd Chapman. “We will get back to work and look forward to our match with Tulsa on Thursday.”
With a forfeit on court six during singles as a result of the injury to freshman Maria Toran Ribes, the Cowgirls went up 2-0 early in the match. Playing at the No. 3 spot, sophomore Janet Koch wasn’t able to overcome No. 49 Aliona Bolsova and dropped the match, 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Nina Khmelnitckaia faced Oklahoma State’s No. 67 Babic at the No. 4 spot and ultimately lost the match, 6-3, 6-2.
The Jayhawks were seeing some success on other courts, but the matches were stopped due the Cowgirls clinching the match point. Senior Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum won her first set 7-5 at No. 2 singles, while No. 81-ranked sophomore Anastasia Rychagova won her second set 6-0 at No. 1 singles after dropping the first one 6-4.
The Jayhawks will return to Lawrence for their final two home matches. The first, which will be televised on the Jayhawk Network, against No. 35 Tulsa is scheduled for 4 p.m., Thursday, and senior day against Kansas State at 1 p.m., Saturday.
