2017 NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament Bracket

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The No. 31-ranked Kansas women’s tennis team is heading to the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight year as revealed during the selection show Tuesday. The Jayhawks (13-10) will face No. 33 Notre Dame (17-9) Saturday, May 13 at 8 a.m. CT in the first round at Varsity Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.

Director of Athletics Dr. Sheahon Zenger congratulates
head coach Todd Chapman on his second-straight
NCAA berth. With a win over the Fighting Irish, Kansas would play the winner of the host, and No. 3 overall seed, Ohio State and Buffalo. That match would be played Sunday, May 14 at 11 a.m. CT.

“The positive is we played a fall event with Notre Dame in November,” said head coach Todd Chapman. “I think we know their team decently well. They’re a good quality team – always in the NCAA Tournament and very well coached. We know we will have our hands full, but at least its hands full with an opponent we’ve seen.”

Under Chapman, last year’s berth ended a 17-year drought. This year, KU did not have to wait as long to return to the national stage after being called for back-to-back years for the first time since 1996-99. Overall, this marks the program’s ninth trip to the NCAA Tournament.

“The plan is not to be someone who jumps in and out every once in a while,” said Chapman. “It’s to be a team that’s in year in and year out. The three (returnees) who we have back on the team this year from last year were freshmen last year and performed really well. I think they can draw on that confidence and know that the moment is not too big for them.”
