Hanna and Hudson move on in U.S. Open qualifier

LAWRENCE, Kan. – With a pair of 69’s, senior Chase Hanna and junior Daniel Hudson will move on to the next step in qualifying for the 2017 U.S. Open.

Hanna and Hudson both recorded 3-under-par rounds on Monday in the local qualifying round, held at The Legends Country Club in Eureka, Missouri

The pair finished tied for second place behind the leader, who shot a 4-under par, 67.

Despite two bogeys on the front, Hanna responded with a birdie on the par-4 fourth, followed by an eagle on his ninth hole to make the turn at 1-over-par. Recording two more bogeys on the back nine, Hanna collected three additional birdies, including back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15.

Posting back-to-back bogeys on the third and fourth holes, Hudson recorded a birdie on the par-4 ninth, to enter the turn at 1-over par. Hudson continued the momentum, making birdie on five of his back-nine holes.

Both Jayhawks will move on to a sectional qualifier in which the top-four finishers qualify to play in the 2017 U.S. Open, set to take place at Erin Hills golf course in Erin, Wisconsin.
