Hanna named to All-Big 12 Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Closing out his storybook senior season, Chase Hanna continues to be recognized for his achievements in his final year as he was awarded All-Big 12 honors Monday afternoon.

The All-Big 12 team consists of the top-10 Big 12 golfers listed in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, as well as the individual victor of the Big 12 Championship, if not listed among the top-10.

Ranked just outside of the top-10 Big 12 golfers, Hanna earned acknowledgement for his victory at the Big 12 Championship, marking his second-career victory. His first came in a similar dramatic fashion to the second, with late-final-round birdies at the Golfweek Challenge September 30-October 2.

Hanna leads the team, posting a -.72 scoring average of 70.95, the only KU golfer with an under-par average. Contributing 33.5 of his 37 rounds to the team score (91%), his presence has made a difference on the team’s regional-qualifying season. Playing 26 of his 37 rounds at even par or better, including 10 rounds in the 60’s, Hanna has earned two wins, four top-5 finishes, six top-10 finishes, and 10 top-20 finishes, marking a career high top-20 finishes in a single season. With a 10-under-par 61 at the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic November 4-6, Hanna set the school record and was one stroke from tying the lowest score in NCAA history.

This marks the first time a KU golfer has been named to the All-Big 12 team since Gary Woodland in 2007. Along with his All-Big 12 team honors, Hanna was named to the All-Big 12 Academic team as well last month.

Hanna will continue his final season as the Jayhawks earned a regional bid in Austin, Texas May 15-17.
