Kansas women close out 18th-place finish at NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – The Jayhawk women’s track & field team closed out an 18th-place finish as the NCAA Outdoor Championships concluded Saturday at Hayward Field. Sophomore LaTyria Jefferson was the final Jayhawk to compete in the four-day meet, posting an 18th-place finish in the high jump. The women’s squad amassed 12 points over their two days of competition to tally its fourth top-25 team finish at the last seven NCAA outdoor meets.
LaTyria JeffersonJefferson closed out the Jayhawks’ week in Eugene with her outing in the women’s high jump final. The Desoto, Texas product posted a first-attempt clearance on the opening height of the competition, clearing 1.73 meters (5-8). She then turned in three solid attempts at the subsequent bar, measuring 1.78 meters (5-10), but was unable to clear it. Jefferson’s day ended with an 18th-place finish, which earned her a spot on the Honorable Mention All-America squad.
The women’s 18th-place finish, along with the Kansas men’s 11th-place team finish, made Kansas one of only seven schools to see both its men’s and women’s teams finish in the top-20 of their respective team races. It also marked the first time in school history both Jayhawk squads notched top-20 finishes at the NCAA Championships.

With the NCAA season complete several Jayhawks will turn their attention to the National Championship meets for their various countries being held throughout the months of June and July.
