Cosentino named 2017 Freshman All-American

TUCSON, Ariz. – Kansas baseball’s freshman second baseman James Cosentino was named to the 2017 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America team, announced by the publication on Wednesday.

The honor adds to Cosentino’s list of accolades and awards this season, as he was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week twice this year, and was All-Big 12 Second Team as well as a member of the Big 12 All-Freshman team. The rookie hit .271 on the season with 11 doubles and four home runs, while driving in 31 RBIs as well as tabbing a team-high 10 stolen bases.

“Congrats to James on an outstanding freshman season, competing in the best baseball conference in America,” head coach Ritch Price said. “He had a great year, not only offensively, but nobody in the country played second base better than he did. If he continues to work hard, and develop his skill set, he’s going to be a really high draft pick before his time is done.”

Cosentino is the sixth player in Kansas history to be recognized as a Freshman All-American and the second Jayhawk in as many years to be honored, as outfielder Devin Foyle earned a spot on the 2016 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team last season.
