Three KU golfers named All-America Scholars

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The academic awards continue to flood in for the Kansas men’s golf team, as Chase Hanna, Daniel Hudson and Daniel Sutton were each named Division I Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars Wednesday.

The Jayhawk trio were among the 260 Division I golfers to earn the title this year. To qualify, golfers must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and boast a cumulative career GPA of 3.2.

“We really stress academics to all of our guys,” said head coach Jamie Bermel. “These three performed at the highest level on the golf course and in the classroom.”

This marks Hanna’s second-consecutive All-America Scholar selection, and the first for both Hudson and Sutton. Historically, KU now has 22 All-America Scholars, but never before has a Jayhawk golf team had three members selected in the same year. Hanna became the fifth student-athlete in the history of the program to be a two-time All-America Scholar, joining Casey Harbour, Walt Koebel, Nate Barbee and Connor Peck.

“Chase being named an All-American and All-America Scholar in the same year is outstanding,” added Bermel. “Dan Hudson is being honored for the first time and had a great year in the classroom and on the golf course. Dan Sutton came in as a transfer,  adjusted very well to KU, and he was very good in the classroom and on the golf course, too.”

Bermel’s squad excelled academically this year, as five members were named to the Academic All Big-12 Team, and the team’s cumulative 3.50 GPA earned it a spot on the GCAA All-Academic Team. Under Bermel’s guidance, KU now has six All-America Scholars in the past three years.
