Three Jayhawks head to ITA National Summer Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas juniors Anastasia Rychagova and Janet Koch and sophomore Tatiana Nikolaeva will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Summer Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, hosted by TCU this weekend.

After six weeks of ITA Summer Circuit tournaments completed, Rychagova finished third in the points standings, giving her automatic entry into the end-of-summer tournament.

“Nastia (Rychagova) has worked extremely hard on her tennis and conditioning this summer,” said head coach Todd Chapman. “Her finishing third in the points standing is quite remarkable since she only played in three of the six events. Nastia is very focused on her tennis and what kind of season she is looking forward to having this upcoming year.”

After claiming both doubles and singles titles at the UMKC, Kansas and Kansas State ITA Summer Circuit tournaments, Rychagova enters the National Summer Championships as the No. 2 seed. With a first-round bye, she will kick off singles play Sunday.

Koch will play as the No. 35-seeded singles player while Nikolaeva will compete as the No. 45 seed. Both will begin singles play Saturday. Rychagova and Koch will also compete as a pair in the doubles bracket.

The winner of the ITA National Summer Championship earns an automatic entry into the main draw of the ITA All-American Championship in the fall.
