Jayhawks advance in the ITA National Summer Championships

FORT WORTH, Texas – Starting off the day strong, Kansas junior Janet Koch and sophomore Tatiana Nikolaeva won both of their singles matches to advance in bracket play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Summer Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, hosted by TCU.
 
No. 45 seeded Nikolaeva downed Wendy French, 6-0, 6-1. Koch, the No. 35 seed, faced Taylor Gruber and came out on top, 6-1, 6-4.
 
After a first-round bye in doubles, the No. 4 seeded pair of Koch and junior Anastasia Rychagova blanked Enya Ratkic and Emma Kesterson, 8-0. Nikolaeva teamed up with Anzhelika Shapovalova in doubles, but the duo dropped their match to Bianca Moldovan and Anna Rogers, 8-2.
 
No. 2 seed Rychagova, who had a first-round bye in the singles bracket, will play her first individual match of the tournament Sunday. She will face Jeanette Mireless at 9:30 a.m., while Nikolaeva plays against No. 20 seed Carolyn Campana at 8 a.m., and Koch will see No. 30 Ellyse Hamlin at 9 a.m.
