Five KU netters open season ranked in top 50 nationally

TEMPE, Ariz. – Although the Kansas tennis team doesn’t start competing for another week and a half, the Jayhawks will open the campaign with junior Anastasia Rychagova ranked No. 35 nationally in singles and a pair of doubles teams both in the top-50 according to the 2017 Oracle ITA Collegiate Tennis Women’s Division I Preseason Rankings.

Rychagova, along with junior Nina Khmelnitckaia, were tabbed as the No. 37 doubles team in the nation, while junior Janet Koch and senior transfer Despoina Vogasari received a No. 50 ranking. It is the first time the Jayhawks have had two doubles teams in the top-50 since January 2012.

After posting a 25-8 singles record last season, Rychagova will start this season with her highest ranking to date.  Her previous best was No. 45 in January of 2016.

The Jayhawks, which have earned at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two seasons, will open the season on September 22 at the Rice Invitational in Houston.
