Jayhawks remain on top after day two at Chip-N-Club Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. – Kansas is once again on top of the leaderboard with a 6-stroke lead headed into the final round at the Chip-N-Club Invitational. Victoria Chandra fell two places on the individual leaderboard, after leading the field following round one, and now sits in a tie for third with a 4-over 148.
“We had too many big numbers Monday that we had eliminated in the first round,” said head coach Erin O’Neil.
After an impressive first round, shooting 2-under, Chandra struggled in round two shooting 6-over for the day. Chandra started the day with three bogies on holes No. 1, 2, and 3. On hole No. 5, Chandra carded another bogie but quickly rebounded with a birdie on No. 6. However, Chandra was not able to capitalize on the previous birdie carding another bogie on No. 7. Chandra scored a double bogie on No. 12 and once again rebounded with a birdie on No. 13. Chandra shot another bogie on No. 15 but was able to maintain even-par on her last three holes.
“Victoria was a little nervous this morning and had a shaky start,” said O’Neil. “However, she was able to settle down as the day went on.”
Yi-Tsen Chou is tied for fifth after shooting 4-over and is 5-over for the event. Chou carded a bogie on holes No. 1 and 3 as well as a double bogie on No. 4 but was able to finish the front nine strong with birdies on holes No. 6 and 9. Chou also had birdies on holes No. 13 and 14 but struggled on the rest of the back nine shooting a bogie on holes No. 15 and 17 as well as a double bogie on No. 16.
“Yi-Tsen did not strike the ball as well Monday but was also able to calm down and keep it respectable,” said O’Neil.
Pistinee Winyarat had a good day for Kansas, firing an eagle on No. 6. Winyarat is in eighth after finishing 3-over in round two and is 7-over through two rounds. Sera Tadokoro is still in the top-10 as well after shooting 7-over in round two. Ariadna Fonseca Diaz moved up nine spots on the leaderboard and is in a tie for 23rd going into the final round.
As individuals, Chomchana Phuchanbanchob moved up 21 spots on the leaderboard after shooting 2-over and will go into the final round in a tie for 23rd with fellow Jayhawk Fonseca Diaz. Xinyun Yu shot 3-over for the round and will go into the final round in a tie for 16th. Senior Kallie Gonzales shot 4-over and will go into the final round in a tie for 20th. Rounding out the individuals is sophomore Annika Cedo who finished round two shooting 8-over. Cedo will start the final round in a tie for 32nd.
“If we can keep it at bogey or better (Tuesday) we will be in good shape,” said O’Neil. “The wind is supposed to shift directions mid-morning Tuesday which will make the course very different from (Monday).”
