Tim Weaver, Meet Director of the Kansas Relays, is in his tenth year with the Jayhawks and his sixth year as Events and Alumni Director for the track and field program. In past years, Weaver served as a track and field assistant, working with multi-event athletes, throwers, sprinters and hurdlers for the University of Kansas men and women. He is now the meet director for KU's home cross country and all track and field meets, including the Kansas Relays. Weaver also coordinates the Rim Rock High School Cross Country Classic, which brings over 2,500 prep athletes from around the Midwest to KU's home course, considered one of the top events of its kind in the nation. Weaver assisted with the 1998 NCAA Divisions I and II Cross Country Championships at Rim Rock Farm as the events coordinator. This event drew over 6,000 fans to Bob Timmons' famous course in what is now considered one of the best championship meets in recent memory. He has also directed the NJCAA Cross Country Championships in 2003 and 2005 plus the 2003 USA Track and Field Region IX Championships. He will direct the 2006 Region IX meet as well as the 2007 National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships. Under Weaver's direction, the University of Kansas will host the Big 12 Cross Country Championship in 2006 and the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship in 2007. As meet director of the Kansas Relays, Weaver is in charge of one of the "Big Five" relay meets in the United States. Combining high school, college and Olympic level competition, the Relays bring over 6,000 athletes to Memorial Stadium for three days of events each April. The meet has grown to product a regional economic impact of $4.69 million. In 2005, the Kansas Relays enjoyed the second-highest attendance it it's 78 year history as a crowd of 24,619 came to witness the first GOLDZONE on Saturday afternoon. Olympic Champions Maurice Greene, Marion Jones, Inger Miller, Savetheda Fynes, Nick Hysong and 33 other Olympians thrilled the audience within this new format. For his efforts in returning the Kansas Relays to prominence, Weaver was recognized by the US Meet Directors Association at the 2005 Meet Director of the Year. Active with international championships, Weaver served as the Head Manager for the men's team at the 2003 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, England. There, the US team brought home 17 total medals, 12 of these gold, to defend Team USA's position as the world's top ranked track and field team. Weaver also led a US squad in the 2004 Team Challenge in Munich, Germany at the Head Manager. This was a pre-Olympic meet for the American team before traveling to Athens. The United States won that event with a score of 90.5, defeating the German (62) and French (42.5) teams. In the summer of 2005, he served as chef de mission for the Pan American Junior Championships held in Windsor, Canada. In the most dominant performance in championship history, Team USA won a total of 57 medals over three days, more than tripling the number won by runner-up Canada. Earlier this year, Weaver was again a manager for the American team that traveled to Moscow, Russia to contest the IAAF World Indoor Championships. He will visit Athens again this coming fall as part of the men's staff for the IAAF World Cup in Athletics. A native of Overland Park, Kan., Weaver was a track and field athlete at the University of Tulsa under the direction of current Kansas men's and women's head coach Stanley Redwine. Weaver set records in sprint, hurdle, and relay events. He graduated from Tulsa in 1995 with degrees in English and education, and earned his Master of Arts in English from KU in 1997.
