Jayhawks Earn Eight Medals in Final Day of Husker Invitational

Shayla Wilson ran the first leg of the champion 4x400-meter relay team, and also set a PR of 56.30 in the 400-meter dash at the Husker Invitational.

LINCOLN, Neb. -

Kansas captured the win in the women's 4x400-meter relay, while seven other individuals earned a spot on the podium in the second day of the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. The Jayhawks also saw ten individuals set personal records in Lincoln, Neb.

Shayla Wilson, Taissa Makhnamayeva, Taylor Washington and Kendra Bradley combined for a season-best time of 3:44.40 in the women's 4x400-meter relay to win the event by a one-second differential over Jacksonville University.

Freshman Mason Finley was the top collegiate finisher in the shot put, with a mark of 18.57 meters (60-11.25 feet). The Salida, Colo., native has reached the provisional qualifying standard in the event at all four meets in which he has competed this season and currently leads the Big 12 Conference, with a mark of 19.10 meters (62-8 feet), which he set at the Bob Timmons Challenge on Dec. 5.

Seniors Jordan Scott and Bret Imgrund both earned runner-up honors in their respective events. Scott cleared 5.20 meters (17-00.75 feet) in the pole vault, while Imgrund took second in the 3,000 meters, after posting a time of 8:19.17, which bested his previous PR by nearly eight seconds. Redshirt-freshmen Austin Bussing and Zach Zarda also set personal records in the event, as Bussing finished fourth in 8:23.49 and Zarda took fifth with a time of 8:24.01. Sophomore Kaleb Humphreys finished in eighth place also in a career-best time of 8:28.62.

Andrea Geubelle took home the silver medal in the triple jump, leaping 12.71 meters (41-08.25 feet) to meet the NCAA provisional qualifying standard for the second time this season. Geubelle also currently holds the fifth-best mark in the Big 12 Conference (41-09.75 feet), which she set at the MU vs. KU Duel on Jan. 15.

Sophomore Corey Fuller was also a medal-winner in the triple jump, finishing third overall with a season-best jump of 15.16 meters (49-9 feet), which is currently the seventh-best mark in the Big 12 Conference.

The men's squad had success in the middle distance events, as freshman Sam Jones and sophomore Keron Toussaint finished third in the 800 meters and 600 yards, respectively. Jones clocked in at 1:54.51 for a new personal record, while Toussaint posted a season-best time of 1:12.19.

Washington, Wilson and Bradley all competed in the consolation finals of the women's 400-meter dash, and Washington came away with the victory, clocking in at 55.30. Wilson took fourth in a career-best time of 56.30, while Bradley finished in sixth place at 56.62.

Sophomore Donny Wasinger competed in the mile for Kansas, finishing in seventh place with a new PR of 4:13.62.

The Jayhawks will split for their next competition on Feb. 12-13, as half the team will travel to Ames, Iowa for the ISU Classic, and the other half will compete in Fayetteville, Ark. at the Tyson Invitational.
