Battle Finishes Second in Shot Put

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Junior Sheldon Battle rounded out his impressive 2005 outdoor track and field campaign with a second-place finish in the shot put at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Battle was the runner-up in the event with a personal best throw of 66-07.25, which is the second-best toss in school history. Battle, the 2005 Big 12's Most Outstanding Outdoor Performer, was defeated by Edis Elkasevic of Auburn who threw 68-06.00. With his top eight finish, Battle has earned All-American honors. KU will have three competitors on the final day of the meet Saturday. Senior Amy Linnen and freshman Ekaterina Sultanova will compete in the pole vault, while senior Jeremy Mims will run in the finals of the 800-meters. Action from Sacramento State University will begin at 1 p.m. Lawrence time.
