Former Jayhawk Scott Claims USA Indoor Pole Vault Title
March 4, 2013
Scott, who vaulted for Kansas from 2007-11, was nothing short of stellar in his performance Sunday inside the Albuquerque Convention Center. He cleared his first five heights without recording a single foul, moving up to the top of the leaderboard with just four other competitors remaining. It took Scott all three attempts to clear the next two bars, but his personal-best clearance on his final attempt at 5.60 meters (18-4.25 ft.) gave him the win over a formidable field. The title is his first at the national level. At Kansas, Scott was a seven-time Big 12 conference champion in the indoor and outdoor pole vault and ranks second on the Jayhawks' all-time outdoor pole vault list with his mark of 5.71 meters (18-8.75 ft.) at the Texas Relays in 2010. Scott was also a three-time All-American in the event, which included his outdoor NCAA Championship in 2010. The NCAA title made Scott the 35th and most recent KU male to claim an individual national outdoor title and the second in the pole vault. Scott will now turn his attention to the outdoor portion of his season has he looks to earn a spot on Team USA for the 2013 World Outdoor Championships in Moscow later this summer.
