STILLWATER, Okla. -

Senior Lauren Bonds' set a career-best time and finished in second-place overall to lead the KU women to a second-place finish at the 73rd Annual OSU Cowboy Jamboree, Saturday, Oct. 3. The men placed sixth in a competitive 25-team field.

Bonds ran the 5K race in 17:19.50, which was over a minute faster than her previous career-record. Junior Amanda Miller was the Jayhawks' No. 2 finisher, as she crossed the finish line in 10th place, also with a career-best 5K time of 17:42.50. Just seconds behind Miller were sophomores Kara Windisch and Rebeka Stowe, who placed 15th and 16th, respectively. Windisch ran a career-best 17:48.60, while Stowe clocked in at 17:50.10, also marking a career-best time.

"Our front four did a tremendous job today," said assistant Coach Michael Whittlesey. "Bonds had a great race. She looked comfortable and strong and was a terrific leader. Miller, Windisch and Stowe competed extremely well together, which is exactly what we had practiced after our last race in Missouri. I am so pleased with the effort on the women's team."

Senior Kellie Schneider finished fifth on the KU squad and 71st overall with a 5K time of 18:54.40. Freshman Kathleen Thompson crossed the finish line in 18:58.80 to take 74th place. Freshman Tessa Turcotte and sophomore Devin Wiegers also finished among the top 100, as Turcotte placed 86th with a 5K time of 19:05.60 and Wiegers came in 94th with a 5K time of 19:08.70.

The KU men improved upon its finish from last year, finishing in sixth place with 216 total points. For the third consecutive race, sophomore Donny Wasinger finished first on the squad, running the 8K in a time of 24:56.30. He placed 31st overall in a field of 245 runners. Senior Bret Imgrund also had a strong performance, as he led the Jayhawks for much of the race, but finished just behind Wasinger at 25:03.70 to take 37th place.

Sophomores Austin Bussing and Kaleb Humphreys were the Jayhawks' No. 3 and No. 4 finishers. Bussing ran an 8K time of 25:26 to finish in 62nd place, while Humphreys was close behind at 25:28.40. Junior Dan Van Orsdel cracked the top 70 after crossing the finish line in an 8K time of 25:33.20.

"The men raced in a very competitive field today," said Whittlesey. "They did not get out well in the first mile and struggled in sticking together as a team, but each individual improved upon their time from last year."

The Jayhawks will be back in action on Oct. 17 for the ISU Pre-Nationals Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., home to the 2009 NCAA Championships.
