Kansas Men's Basketball, Men's and Women's Cross Country APR's Among Top 10 Percent In Country
May 17, 2011
The NCAA Tuesday recognized three KU teams – men’s basketball and men’s and women’s cross country – for achieving four-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores that are among the nation’s top 10 percent in their respective sports. This is the second consecutive year these three teams have earned this distinction. All three sports have achieved a multi-year APR score of 1,000, the highest score attainable. The most recent multi-year APRs are based on scores from the 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10 academic years. Top-performing teams this year posted four-year APR scores ranging from 977 to a perfect 1,000. APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition and penalties, will be announced May 24. The four-year APR scores of all of KU’s 18 sports programs registered well above the requisite measure of 925 established by the NCAA for good standing. Women’s basketball, softball and tennis joined men’s basketball, and men’s and women’s cross country with perfect 1,000 scores for the 2009-10 academic year.
“Each year the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear APR,” the NCAA said in its release. “This announcement is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.” The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, providing a measure of each team's academic performance. The NCAA annually honors teams earning multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport. The list of teams receiving this award may be accessed at the link below. The teams are searchable by sport, conference, institution, state, and year. https://web1.ncaa.org/maps/lic8Le43aprRecognitionAwards.jsp
