A former player at KU, Tai Mitchell returns for his second stint at Kansas after spending the last two seasons at De Anza College in Cupertino, Calif., as an assistant coach. Mitchell serves as the team's head student manager and will work primarily with the team's catchers. Mitchell worked with the team's catchers at De Anza. The team's starting catcher, Gary Foster, accepted a scholarship to a four-year school - San Diego Christian College - this season. Mitchell was a catcher with the Jayhawks in 2008 and served as a student manager during the 2009 season. In addition to his year at KU, Mitchell played two seasons at De Anza. He was named the De Anza College Male Scholar of the Year in 2007. Prior to his time at De Anza, he lettered twice in baseball for head coach David Kawamoto, Jr. at Cupertino High School. While at Cupertino, he was named SCUAL All-League as well as team MVP as a senior. He also lettered in soccer in high school. A native of Santa Clara, Calif., Mitchell graduated from KU in 2009, earning a bachelor's degree in exercise science. He is completing a master's degree in sports management. |
