WACO, Texas -

Freshman Tony Thompson collected a career high three hits, including his second home run of the season, while Ryne Price hit his team-leading ninth homer of the season, but it was not enough. Baylor left fielder Ben Booker went 3-for-4 with three runs scored as the 29th-ranked Bears knocked off Kansas, 12-6 Saturday at Baylor Ballpark.

The Bears improve to 18-11 overall and 5-6 in the Big 12, while Kansas drops to 19-15 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Baylor scored runs in five of their eight innings at bat, including a pair of runs in the first off a two-run homer by Dustin Dickerson. It marked the fifth time in eight conference games that KU has allowed first inning runs.

By the fifth, the Bears had built a 10-1 lead. However, KU tried to climb back into the game with the long ball. In the sixth, Ryne Price hit his team-leading ninth round-tripper with two men aboard to bring the Jayhawks within 10-4.

KU tacked on another run in the inning on Casey Larson's RBI single. In the seventh, senior Justin Ellrich hit a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall to bring KU within 10-6. However, that's as close as it would get.

Baylor tacked on two more runs in the eighth on a sac fly and a double steal to hand KU its seventh loss in the Big 12 this season.

Thompson led an eight-hit Jayhawk attack with three hits, including a solo home run to lead off the fourth. It marked the freshman's first three-hit game. Price also chipped in two hits and three RBIs.

The Jayhawks will look to salvage the third and final game of the series Sunday at 1:05 p.m. in Waco.
