LAWRENCE, Kan. - Missouri State scored three unearned runs in the top of the 11^th inning Sunday as the Bears completed a perfect weekend at the Jayhawk Classic with a 6-3 victory over Kansas at Hoglund Ballpark.

The Jayhawks drop to 19-29 overall and finish their tournament with a 1-2 record after splitting a pair of games with Air Force.

With two outs and Kevin Medrano on third base in the 11^th inning, Missouri State's Brock Chaffin hit a ball in between first and second that was thrown wide of first base allowing Chaffin to reach and Medrano to come home with what proved to be the winning run. The Bears tacked on two more runs on an RBI double and a bases loaded walk for the margin of victory.

Missouri State pitcher Grant Gordon picked up his fifth victory of the season, pitching 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Gordon allowed just one hit - a leadoff single to James Stanfield in the eighth inning - in his outing.

Kansas starting pitcher Thomas Taylor took a no-decision, but tossed six quality innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with two walks and five strike outs. Freshman Robert Kahana came in for Taylor in the seventh and did not allow a run over four innings of relief.

Behind Taylor, the Jayhawks held a 3-1 lead going into the seventh, but Trey Massenberg and Dylan Becker knocked the KU starter out of the game with back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning. MSU then tied the game when, with runners on first and third, KU was unable to convert a double play on a ground ball to short.

The Jayhawks built their lead with two runs in the third and a run in the sixth. After a fielder's choice and a hit by pitch put runners on first and second with one out in the third, sophomore Tucker Tharp laced an RBI single to right center, which tied the game at 1-1. KU then took the lead when freshman Justin Protacio dashed home following a wild pitch.

KU stretched the advantage to two runs on Chris Manship's RBI double off the center field wall, which brought home Jordan Dreiling. Manship finished the day 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Following the game, Kansas senior Chris Manship (1B), juniors Alex DeLeon (DH), Jordan Dreiling (3B), sophomore Frank Duncan (SP) and freshman Dakota Smith (OF) were all named to the Jayhawk Classic All-Tournament team. Missouri State second baseman Kevin Medrano and starting pitcher Nick Petree were named the Most Outstanding Player and the Most Outstanding Pitcher of the weekend respectively.

Kansas will return to the diamond on Friday, May 11 when the Jayhawks take on Kansas State in a big three-game series in Manhattan, Kan. KU leads the Wildcats by 1 ½ games for the eighth and final spot in the Big 12 Baseball Championship with six conference games to play.
