Jayhawks Place Six on Academic All-Big 12 Teams

IRVING, Texas - Redshirt junior Jake Marasco was named First Team Academic All-Big 12 for the third time in his career to highlight KU's six selections, which were announced Tuesday by the conference office. Marasco was joined on the first team by senior pitchers Jordan Jakubov and Matt Kohorst, junior infielder Jordan Dreiling and junior pitcher Tanner Poppe. Senior outfielder Taylor Hart was tabbed second team academic all-conference. Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services, the Academic All-Big 12 Team consisted of 34 first team members and 26 second team selections. First team members consisted of players who maintained a 3.20 or better GPA and second team members were those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. KU's six selections match its 2011 total, which also included five first-team honorees. Marasco is the only three-time selection in the group. He has maintained a grade point average of 3.53 in his academic career and graduated with a degree in business marketing on Saturday. Jakubov and Poppe were both honored for the second time in their careers. Jakubov is earning a double-major in psychology and sports management, while Poppe is working towards a degree in exercise science/pre-physical therapy. Dreiling, Kohorst and Hart were all honored for the first time in their careers. Dreiling, a Lawrence, Kan. native, is a business finance major, while Kohorst is earning a degree in business management. Hart is working towards a degree in mechanical engineering. The Jayhawks will finish the regular season with a three-game series against Border Showdown rival Missouri at Hoglund Ballpark. The first game of the three-game set is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m.
